5 Things You Can Start Doing Today to Burn Fat
#1 Avoid Sugar
We are constantly surrounded by an endless supply of sugar. It's found in nature typically in very small quantities, but now you can find it in everything from condiments to health bars, meaning that most people eat way too much sugar every day. While grocery shopping take the time to read food labels and see how much added sugar there is in what you're about to buy. Seek out sugar free alternatives that are either not sweetened at all, or sweetened with healthy alternatives such as Xylitol or Erythritol.
#2 Eat Healthy Fat
When you scale back your sugar consumption by following item #1 you'll likely find yourself hungry or not satiated by what you're eating. A great substitute for sugar that is an important part of the human diet is fat. Fat makes up the walls of every cell in your body so it's important to consume healthy fat from things like avocados, macadamia nuts, coconut, and fat from grass fed animals and fish.
#3 Avoid grains
Contrary to popular belief, and government guidance, grains are not a necessary component of the human diet. Your ancestors thousands of years ago did not start their day with sugared cereals and pastries. Grains are a carbohydrate and have some of the same disastrous effects on your health as sugar. Many people find grain proteins such as gluten to be inflammatory. Stop eating grains for a week and see how you feel.
#4 Drink Ice Water With Meals
Water is necessary for nearly every biological process in your body, including digestion. In order to make use of water your body will heat it to body temperature first. This means you're expending energy just by having to heat that ice water up to usable temperature. If you're drinking alcohol in the evening, have it before or after your meal and have ice water during mealtime instead.
#5 Eat whole foods
Buy whole, natural foods and put together your own simple meals. If you're about to buy a boxed or packaged meal ask yourself whether you're buying a nourishing meal of natural food or if you're buying a company's product whose main goal was shelf life, rather than nutritional content. If you find something in the ingredients list you don't recognize, consider whether or not you want that substance in your body. Buy the most local, grass fed meats you can find and wild caught fish. Your genes are ancient and respond to survive in the environment they are in. When you're surrounded by sugar at all times your body stores that excess energy as fat. If you cut back on the sugar and increase your fat consumption your body sees that you are in a fat-rich environment and goes into fat burning mode; you burn the fuel you have available.
Remember: Eating sugar makes you fat and eating fat makes you thin.
